A Little Leo History
The Golden Leos Organization was formed in the year of 1978 (Fall semester) under the sponsorship of then
President F.H. McDowell.
The purpose of the organization was to utilize current students (then East Texas State University students) to promote the University, recruit new students and to participate in designated public relation functions.
A committee was formed in the first few months of 1978 that included Ron Robinson the Dean of Student Life and Janice King the Assistatnt Dean of Student Life.
The committee discussed the development and organization of what was first known as "Pride of the Lions", however the name was already in use for a publication out at the time.
By October of 1978, the name of the organization had been changed to "The Lion's Golden Quarter" but by 1979 it was decided that the organization should be named the "Golden Leos."
